A recent article posted on a popular Radio industry web site (Los Angeles Radio People www.laradio.com) on August 9,2000 has started a movement to re-unite past and present air personalities from the heralded past of Los Angeles based radio station KROQ. In the article, The "Insane" Darrell Wayne shared his experiences at KROQ from 1976 until 1981, which were the formative years of the L.A. music scene and built the stage for KROQ's current popularity. At the conclusion of the piece, Darrell asked that all KROQ alumni interested in a reunion should get in touch. The response has been phenomenal, with e-mails being exchanged across the country. Industry trade publications have picked up the story, as well as other web site coverage.

KROQ has a wild and sorted past as one of the last holdouts of free-form radio in the U.S., as well as commercial success before and after the fact. Some of the greatest radio entertainers have frequented the KROQ airwaves, including Charlie Tuna, Jimmy Rabbit, Flo and Eddie, Shadoe Stevens, Frazer Smith, and hundreds of others too lengthy to name.

Over seventy (70) responders have checked in so far, including alumnus, fans, competitors, and industry executives showing interest in such an event. To that end, Darrell Wayne now operates a web site at www.kroqreunion.com to collect names of interested participants.

"We're pleased with the response." said Wayne "and have decided to hold the event, as well as publish a CD, Video, and book to pay proper homage to the pictures and tapes that will be collected as a result." Wayne continued, " We plan to hold the event to benefit charity and a major benefactor for Aids, Leukemia, and Cancer research shows interest." "Getting the current KROQ management to support the activity is important for promotional sponsorship, and we hope to do it with them."

The events are scheduled for February or March of 2001 and will consist of a private reception for alumnus to get together, along with a public charity event with live bands and giveaways. The nationwide search to contact past KROQers continues and the web site keeps track of who is still missing in action. The event will bear out if these K-ROQ Cowboys are still crazy.
