As many of you know, Darrell Wayne is organizing a KROQ reunion to be held
this summer. As an update, Darrell made the following statement: "I am faced
with a rather perplexing situation. Although I chose the KROQ Reunion date as
not to create a major conflict, KROQ Radio has chosen that weekend to hold
the Weenie Roast, a major station event. This would keep all of the current
staff from attending the reunion. At the insistence of several current staff
members, and trying to keep the event available to as many current and
ex-KROQers as possible, I am forced to again change the date. This comes as a
great embarrassment to me personally, but sometimes I just have to bite the
bullet and make the change. I've met with Trip Reeb on two occasions, and
while the station has held back from giving me an official sponsorship, they
have been very cordial and accommodating."
The "new" last date is August 4, 2001. This is a Saturday night and the next
available Saturday night that the Hilton had to offer. Darrell continued, "I
appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. This has been both a
rewarding, yet frustrating undertaking. I HAVE paid the deposit to the Hilton
and all is a guarantee for the August 4th date.
Feb 16 2001
For a variety of reasons, none the least of which were Easter, NAB, and
non-availability of several key players, the KROQ Reunion is now re-scheduled
for;
June 23rd, 2001
PLEASE mark your calendar and keep this date in ink or granite in your palm,
daytimer, or a scrap of paper on your refrigerator.
All other pertinent facts remain the same:
Rabbitt Performance
Pasadena Hilton Hotel
Private Joq reception prior to the main event

Charity Sponsors
I must re-establish the deposit and get a final head count by month end, so
your commitment is important.
If we are able to get heavy charity contributions, part of the ticket price
will be refunded.
Shana has come on board to help with the fund raising.
Anyone that can get a corporate sponsor to donate $1000 or more will get a
free pair of tickets to the event. This IS tax-deductable

Wow! What a week. With all of the activties at the Museum of Television
and Radio, plus web site(ings), we've made the following contacts:Rodney
Bingenheimer, Steven Clean, Rachael Donahue, Mark Goodman, Mike Lee, Bob
Lee, Carole Reed (BMR's widow), Alexia, and Andy Schuon. Both Richard Kimball
and Jim Ladd showed interest.
The question of the hour is "Where the heck is April?" Any thoughts?
A new press release is going out and we search to fill out the entertainment.

Thank you to Joel Seigel of Good Morning America on ABC for sending the
vintage KMET tee-shirt for the display at the Museum of Television and
Radio panel, "KMET and Beyond" which will be held on Oct. 30th. Also,
thanks in advance to Chuck Randall and Dr. Demento for the other display
items. Come out and see ex-KROQer Dusty Street on the panel. Joel (ex-KPPC)also
sent a tape of the KPPC farewell broadcast, which I will make available
on the audio links. We've been in touch with JJ Jackson, Pat Welsh, and
Stryker this week. We have "official" confirmation of TJ Martell Foundation
and The Rick Carroll Scholorship Fund as the charity benefactors of the
event. Don Barrett is in the final throws of his Bio updates for his LA
Radio book, version 2001. Please visit his web site and confirm you are
current with him if you already haven't. I'm holding a short committee
meeting at my house on Saturday to work on some task assignments, please
let me know if you wish to join. Lastly, please visit the enhanced Audio
Links and Image Gallery pages. Thanks to Tattoo and Greg at OTN for the
hard work that makes thiss site possible.

I met with KROQ Management today and they have no objection with the
"Industry" event we are going to hold. Now that we've cleared that hurtle,
my work is cut out for me and any other "volunteers" that would like to
help publicize, organize, promote, or help to find sponsors for this activity. We
have a date - March 30, 2001. We have a location - The Hollywood Palace.
The following short term activties are planned: New Press Release with
Date and Time Continue to locate the MIA's Get sponsor to help support
Web costs Finalize a charity benefactor.
As always, I could use some help. I suggest we have a quick meeting
of those interested in Steering Committee activties in the next few weeks.
Let me know if you want in on some of that!

Just to clarify, we ARE INCLUDING KPPC folks in our reunion. The 106.7
frequency was pure imagination on air even before KROQ. We've heard from
Dr. Demento, Jeff Gonzer, Charles Laquidara, Harvey Tow (Cousin Zino)
and several others. They helped build the foundation on which this cornucopia
of radio was built. In the more recent past, Cassandra Peterson and Don
Elliot have checked in. Rob "Tattoo" Ruggeri has been VERY helpful toward
adding audio clips and streaming audio. Kevin McKeown turned the drawer
upside down with new photos. Jeff Leonard and Dave Klayman have supplied
KROQ-AM tapes, and Michelle Doram (Ex-KROQ staffer) has helped to locate
others.
Gary Lycan ran a quick blurb in the OC Register last Sunday and we're
expecting more reaction from the recent press release.
NEXT- Tell me (ddoubleu@aol.com) if you're interested in a KROQ Reunion
Golf Tournament either on March 31 or April 1st in conjunction. I think
it sounds like a blast and a great excuse to get together again.
Still looking for current management support at KROQ and a firm commitment
from our charity sponsor

Just got off the phone with Frazer Smith. He related a story about the
first Hollywood Nightshift at the Hilton Hotel.
The station had gone off the air, and Al Ramirez had done "emergency
repairs" with switchblade under the console. Frazer didn't know whether
Al was a station guy or a mugger as he climbed from under the board, knife
in hand.
Also heard from Jeanne Chappe' and Zack Zenor, where Jeanne wrote of
wild times in the studio with Stephen Clean, and Bob Gowa and others.
All in a days work.
The date is set for Friday, Mar. 30th, 2001 at the Hollywood Palace.
We should be able to fill the place w/ just family, friends, and "the
media". More to come. Keep the tapes and photos coming. I'll detail the
tapes received on a separate page.

On a serious note, the thing that continues to impress me as I speak
to the KROQ alumni is the amount of soberiety we have racked up as a group.
There's well over 150 years of clean and sober in less than twenty people
I've talked to and, believe me, it's the only reason I'm around to take
on this event, much less breathing in and out. Many thanks to those that
are still around to participate.
PLEASE leave your calendar open for the weekend of March 30, 31, April
1st. The jock reception is booked for that Friday night, and I'm firming
up the Hollywood Palace for the "really big shoe" on Saturday, March 31.
Album Network is giving us coverage, thank you to Tommy Nast.
Our web site has over 1700 hits in less than a month, with quite a few
coming through Don Barrett's LARadio.com, so thank you again Don for all
of your help. We're not over the hump yet in contacting ALL the jocks,
so please help spread the word.
Thanks to Kevin McKeown for the latest pictures and to Jeff Leonard,!
who sent audio of Rabbitt's original 1500am broadcast from Sept. of '72
and Lee "Baby" Simms first simulcast from '73.
We need pictures and tapes for the CD/Video/Picture Book!

It was a marvelous So. Cal weekend, punctuated by contact by Dusty Street
and Brent Kahlen. Dusty checked in from KXPT 97.1 in Las Vegas (Classic
Hits).
Driving up the coast last night, it was sure nice to hear Denise Westwood
on KLOS. She sounds better than ever! and certainly in her element in
L.A. radio.
Got a line on Al Ramirez (STILLL at KLOS.
If you haven't updated your information for Don Barrett's new book (2001
version) on LA Radio people, please contact him at dbradio@pacbell.net
or visit his web site at www.laradio.com

With interest from current KROQ staffers Jed the Fish, Bean, Sluggo,
Doc on the Roq, Ramondo, and Scott Mason, I hope the meeting with Kevin
Weatherly will go smoothly. Should now be held after Kevin returns from
vacation.
Got another e-mail from Jon Scott and the T.J. Martell support as a
charity interest is intended. Carl Caprioglio of Oglio records has shown
interest, as he has released CD's such as Barnes and Barnes, Ogden Edsl,
and all the Richard Blade flashback stuff. I'm sure he will work with
us in some form.
Still trying to collect addresses and phone numbers on those who have
checked in, and make contact with MIA's on a daily basis. A major press
release is going out, the text of which will post to the site.
We also need to trade link for link on any compatible web site you can
think of. Let me know.
It was great to hear from Frddy Snakeskin, living on The Edge in Phoenix
and Bean of the current morning show today.
Thank you for your support. We'll nail down exact dates in the next 30
days.

This is a big week. Bob Koontz will work with me on press releases. Waiting
for a returned call from Kevin Weatherly (current KROQ PD for station
support).
Wanna sponsor the web site? Please call. We need links or banners on
home pages so searches will find us. Any help will be handy.
The events are now targeted for Feb/Mar 2001.

Alot to do over this weekend with scanning pictures and sorting through
the missing contacts list. There's a few duplicates, as you've seen (Doc
Nemo and the Young Marquis being the same person, etc...)
Got a line on the whereabouts of Mike Ritto (Mike Rafone) and I'll speak
to him this weekend. Bob Koontz who did the post 1976 tee shirts checked
in. Don Barrett (LARADIO.COM) did
run us again today w/ a hyperlink to this site. (Thanks DON)
Got a line from Roberto of the Reggae Revolution today. He wrote: "Checked
out the site... Good work! Just in case you wanted to know, I too deejayed
at "Rock N Rhythm" KNAC(replacing Dick Shepard AKA Richard Blade) working
overnights and playing new music & the classics in 1982. Shortly thereafter
Jimmy Christopher gave me the opportunity to bring reggae to the commericial
airwaves and "Reggae Revolution" was born. When the format changed to
pure rock, Rick Carroll took a look at my numbers on Sunday night (a 2.2
share when the station's overall was .6) and gave me a shot at the old
studios in Pasadena. Swedish Egil didn't let me on the air during my 1st
shift because Rick never told him that I was hired... Oh well, I showed
up the following week and the rest is history!!!"
Look forward to posting pictures and stories from all of you!!!

Nice to get an e-mail; from Doc on the Roq today, although most of it
was unprintable. Wait a minute, the statute of limitations may be on our
side on this one.
We've gotten "ink" at Allaccess.com and Radiodigest.com and will be featured
in the next R&R Street Talk. The kind and generous Don Barrett will run
us again at laradio.com on Friday.
Woodside's looking for folks and talked to Poorman. Jim is still a "little"
bitter.
Pictures will start to post to the site soon.

Thank you for visiting the new KROQReunion Web Site. News will be updated
regularly, so please check back often. The following ideas will be incorporated
into the festivities:
Produce an audio compliation CD of collected airchheck montages
Produce a "Memory Book" of collected pictures
Produce a Video of pictures and audio, plus tape of the events
A Private reception before the event for air personalities to get re-acquainted
In the short term, this is what is needed immediately:
1. Web Site Sponsorship
2. KROQ approval
3. Someone to do publicity (send press releases, etc...)
Hope to hear from all of you soon. This site will not be a substitute
for personal contact!
